“Life in a hurry”, that’s what we are living right now. Food is the most crucial element of our lives and we must be serious about it. Not just physical exercise but the food we eat has major effects on our body. Every person of each age group needs to follow certain dietary habits to stay fit and healthy physically as well as mentally.

Food not just impacts our physical health, but also has some sort of indirect effects on our emotions. Having an ideal diet keeps us active throughout the day or night while we are working. India has a vast variety of food habits around each region changing as the work culture and climate/environment change.

The Traditional Indian Food

Indian food is most popular due to its diversity. The variety of foods, spices, and dishes native to India make Indian food one of the healthiest foods in the world. But lately, Indian food has started to be classified as unhealthy because it is linked to foods high in sugar and carbohydrates that can contribute to high cholesterol. Traditional Indian food, however, is not only healthy, but it is also incredibly tasty and has many health benefits. Indian food supports immunity, inflammation, brain function, and various other functions of the human body.

A lot of Grains

Bajra, Nachni, and Jowar are abundantly grown in India along with various grains of rice. It is disappointing that in the age of low-carbohydrate diets, rice consumption for weight loss was banned. Some researchers emphasize that people with diabetes can also eat hand-pounded rice. There are also a wide variety of legumes in Indian cuisine. Combinations such as plate rice and rajma rice have been common in India for centuries. These compounds are essential protein meals with all the essential amino acids.

How should we eat?

We work for hours and require energy to perform well. We must have a diet that provides us with an ample amount of energy the whole day long. There must be a pattern for daily food intake. We must keep a balance between a variety of food, whether it is non-veg or veg food.

Whatever it takes, a heavy breakfast in the morning could provide you with the energy you’ll need to kick start your work with a high amount of josh. Even, I’ve followed this pattern of having heavy breakfast in the morning for a few weeks and later experimented with having very little or no breakfast for a few weeks. The results were not so surprising as I felt low in energy and speed when I had less or no breakfast. On the other side, when I had a heavy breakfast it was going great and the energy level was maintained till lunchtime.

What should be consumed?

I’m a foodie person and enjoy eating snacks and a variety of food at regular intervals. The fact that I noticed about food habits and a healthy tummy was the food intake pattern. I used to have non-veg meals at least three to four times a week. As we went into a three months lockdown in the year 2020, my taste buds changed their preference and went high on a vegetarian diet. Later, at the beginning of 2021, my preference for veg food kept on rising, and illness which I use to face quarterly or semi-annually almost vanished.

Having a balanced diet helps you keep your body, mind, and stomach disease-free for a long period as we know the greater part of illness is related directly or indirectly to our stomach and food habits.

Final Thoughts

Each individual is unique and has its unique requirements regarding food for their body. Consuming high fiber and a variety of food can lead you to a healthy life and most probably disease-free. From my personal experience, I can tell you that, changing the food according to the season and having seasonal fruits will benefit you in the long run with the boost in immunity.

Consuming non-vegetarian food is fine up to a certain extent, with proper regulation on variety could help you balance the indigestion problem. As I mentioned earlier, a decrease in non-veg food consumption had provided me several benefits including less illness within a year, and a stable digestion system.

It was my personal opinion and experience that i have mentioned, you might get different results. But those will be memorable if you follow some basic rules that are essential for our stomach and digestion system.
